Contentful integration
Contentful is a content model before it is a website. The Contentful integration creates and updates entries against that model, so published work fits the structure your developers designed.
What the Contentful integration is
The Contentful connection writes entries into a space and environment you choose, against the content type you nominate. Fields are mapped explicitly, so a draft becomes a valid entry rather than something that fails validation on save.
Entries can be created as drafts and left for an editor to publish, which matches how most teams using Contentful already work: content is reviewed in the web app, then published to whichever front end consumes the API.
What you can do with it
Four questions the two data sets answer together that neither answers alone.
Entries are created against the content type you nominate, with fields mapped explicitly, so nothing arrives in a shape your front end cannot render.
Point WriteWorks at a specific environment, so content can be staged before it reaches production.
Improving an existing entry keeps its URL and its history, which is almost always better than publishing a second page about the same thing.
Entries can arrive unpublished and go live through your existing review process.
How the Contentful integration works
About a minute to connect, and nothing to maintain afterwards.
Create a Contentful management token
In Contentful, create a Content Management API token with access to the space you want to publish into.
Connect it in WriteWorks
Open Settings, then Integrations, and choose Contentful. Add the token and pick the space and environment.
Map to a content type
Choose the content type new work should use, and map the draft's title, body, slug and summary to its fields.
Publish and track
Approved drafts become entries. Once the entry is live, the URL is tracked for citations and search performance.
Who uses the Contentful integration
The same connection answers a different question depending on who is asking.
Content that arrives valid against the model, without a bespoke import script to maintain.
Draft in WriteWorks, review in Contentful, publish through the process you already have.
Stage into a non-production environment first, and keep publishing under existing controls.
Publish to each client's own space with its own token and mapping.
You bring your own account. The Contentful integration authenticates with your own account at Contentful, on your own plan and your own quota. WriteWorks reads the data that account already has access to, and nothing else. Disconnect at any time and the stored credential is deleted.
