Semrush integration

The keyword research you already run, joined to what AI engines say about you. The Semrush integration uses your own API units, so WriteWorks reads the data you already pay for rather than an estimate of it.

What it is

What the Semrush integration is

The Semrush connection is an API key you paste in once. WriteWorks calls Semrush as you, on your own subscription and unit balance, and pulls volume, difficulty and related terms for the prompts and briefs in play.

The purpose is ordering. Without demand data, a list of AI citation gaps is a list with no priority. With it, the queue sorts itself: gaps behind real search demand first, curiosities last.

What it does

What you can do with it

Four questions the two data sets answer together that neither answers alone.

Citation gaps are ranked using your own Semrush volumes, so the first brief in the queue is the one with the most demand behind it.

How it works

How the Semrush integration works

About a minute to connect, and nothing to maintain afterwards.

1

Get your Semrush API key

In Semrush, copy the API key from your profile on a plan that includes API units. It stays yours and can be rotated at any time.

2

Paste the key into WriteWorks

Open Settings, then Integrations, and choose Semrush. Paste the key, which is stored encrypted and never displayed in full again.

3

WriteWorks enriches prompts and briefs

Tracked prompts, opportunities and draft briefs pick up volume, difficulty and related terms from your account.

4

Write against the demand

Each brief names the cluster and the volume behind it, so what gets published is decided before anyone opens a document.

Who it is for

Who uses the Semrush integration

The same connection answers a different question depending on who is asking.

Bring the research you already run into the same view as AI citations, without another export.

You bring your own account. The Semrush integration authenticates with your own account at Semrush, on your own plan and your own quota. WriteWorks reads the data that account already has access to, and nothing else. Disconnect at any time and the stored credential is deleted.

FAQ

Semrush integration FAQs

The questions teams ask before connecting it.

What does the Semrush integration do?+
It uses your Semrush API key to pull keyword volume, difficulty, related terms and trend data into WriteWorks, so AI citation gaps can be ranked by the search demand behind them.
Do I need my own Semrush plan?+
Yes. The integration runs on your key, your plan and your API units. WriteWorks does not resell Semrush data.
How do I connect Semrush to WriteWorks?+
Copy your API key from Semrush, open Settings, then Integrations in WriteWorks, choose Semrush and paste it in. It takes about a minute.
Will it burn through my API units?+
Calls are made when a brief, opportunity or report needs data, not on a background schedule, and usage is shown in WriteWorks so the cost of a run is visible.
Can I switch between Semrush and another provider?+
Yes. Ahrefs, Semrush and DataForSEO can all be connected, and you choose which supplies keyword data. Switching does not rebuild your briefs or reports.
What happens if I disconnect it?+
The stored key is deleted and no further calls are made. Data already pulled stays on the reports that used it.
