Tavily integration

A draft is only citable if its sources are real and current. The Tavily integration gives WriteWorks research agents live web search, on your own key, so a brief is built from what exists today.

What it is

What the Tavily integration is

Tavily is a search API built for agents rather than people: it returns sources and extracts rather than a page of blue links. WriteWorks uses your key to run those searches while a brief or research task is being assembled.

The reason it matters is that a model's training data has a date on it and your market does not. Live search is what keeps a draft from confidently describing a product tier that was retired last year.

What it does

What you can do with it

Four questions the two data sets answer together that neither answers alone.

Agents search as they work, so a brief cites what is published now rather than what a model remembers.

How it works

How the Tavily integration works

About a minute to connect, and nothing to maintain afterwards.

1

Create a Tavily API key

Sign up for Tavily and create a key. Searches run on your plan and your quota.

2

Add the key to WriteWorks

Open Settings, then Integrations, and choose Tavily. Paste the key, which is stored encrypted.

3

Let agents search while they work

Research tasks and brief generation call Tavily when they need current sources, and the results are kept with the output.

4

Check the sources before publishing

Each draft carries its source list, so review is reading the evidence rather than trusting the prose.

Who it is for

Who uses the Tavily integration

The same connection answers a different question depending on who is asking.

Drafts that arrive with real, current sources instead of plausible-sounding claims.

You bring your own account. The Tavily integration authenticates with your own account at Tavily, on your own plan and your own quota. WriteWorks reads the data that account already has access to, and nothing else. Disconnect at any time and the stored credential is deleted.

FAQ

Tavily integration FAQs

The questions teams ask before connecting it.

What does the Tavily integration do?+
It gives WriteWorks research agents live web search using your own Tavily key, so briefs, drafts and scheduled research runs are built from current sources with URLs attached.
Do I need my own Tavily account?+
Yes. Searches run on your key and quota, which keeps cost and rate limits under your control.
How do I connect Tavily to WriteWorks?+
Create an API key in Tavily, then open Settings, Integrations, choose Tavily and paste it in.
Do I need Tavily if I already have Exa?+
No. Both are live search providers and one is enough. Teams that run both usually prefer Tavily for straightforward topical research and Exa where meaning matters more than keywords.
Does it replace the SEO data integrations?+
No. Tavily finds and reads sources; Ahrefs, Semrush and DataForSEO tell you what people search for and how hard a term is. Briefs use both.
What happens if I disconnect it?+
The stored key is deleted and agents stop searching through Tavily. Research already gathered stays with the work that used it.
